Titanium Court Review

Platform Played: PC
Developer: AP Thomson
Publisher: Fellow Traveller
Genre: Strategy / Puzzle
Completion Status (How Long to Beat): No (17 hours played)

Titanium Court is a highly stylized match-three auto-battler that leans heavily into narrative subversion and strategy. This is one of the most difficult games to review, as it is the type of game that revels in subversion, similar to Inscryption or Undertale. The core match-three auto-battler system is fun and requires a good deal of strategy, with runs feeling meaningfully different based on passive and active traits. This is bolstered by fantastic, genuinely funny writing. The first ten or so hours of the game were incredible, and it easily would have been a 9/10 experience.

However, I was met a tremendous amount of friction during the latter half of my playthrough. Without revealing spoilers, during my experience, the game's rules and goal posts suddenly shifted, and progress felt like an absolute slog, leaving me feeling like I had just wasted my time. I found myself frustratingly trying to crawl to the finish line before ultimately throwing in the towel. Titanium Court is extremely clever and self-aware, but sometimes it feels like it’s too clever for its own good, creating friction that becomes fatiguing and deeply unsatisfying.

Pros:

  • Fantastic, genuinely funny, and impactful writing.
  • The match-three auto-battler system is fun and strategically deep.
  • Runs are kept fresh and meaningfully different through passive and active traits.
  • The first ten hours provide an incredible, top-tier experience.

Cons:

  • Progress reversals and shifting rules mid-run turn the game into a frustrating slog.
  • The self-aware subversions become fatiguing and make you feel like your time is being wasted.
  • Too much friction in the late game makes crawling to the finish line highly unsatisfying.

Overall Score: 6/10
